The Business and Technology Center

The original building located at 301 North Main which was constructed in 1930, was designed by famed architect George R. Mackay for the national chain of 5& 10cent stores owned by Samuel H. Kress. The successful retail business maintained its presence in the downtown location until the late 1970’s when a corporate decision was handed down to close its doors. In 1983, the Pueblo Economic Development Corporation, (PEDCO), took over the ownership of the building as well as the responsibility of a massive interior remodel project. In 1984, the building opened its doors once again as Colorado’s first incubator for small businesses, offering premier office space to small or start-up companies. As an incubator for small businesses, the BTC helps new and growing companies to be successful by providing valuable support services in a professional office environment. These services include:

  • Professional office suites complete with high-speed Internet connections, directory listing, janitorial services and utilities.
  • Secretarial/ Receptionist services that include word processing, notary and mail processing.
  • New, updated office equipment such as copy machines, facsimiles and postage machines.
  • Available state-of-the-art computer software, hardware and technology transfer resources.
  • A secured office environment with a security alarm system and 24 hr. monitoring.
  • Conference and seminar rooms complete with audiovisual equipment.
  • Business library housing local/regional newspapers, Colorado telephone directories and entrepreneurial information.
  • Break room with vending machines and a microwave oven.

Additional pluses are business-to-business assistance, technical guidance and a ready-made support group of peers who share a sense of determination.

The BTC currently has 33 units ranging in size from 160 to 1,346 square feet, with an additional 6,500 square feet located in the lower level, for single office to light assembly/manufacturing. Lease rates are based on many factors including size and type of space required, financial capability and the level of service needs.

Statistics prove companies prosper in shared workspace arrangements. The buildings atmosphere offers mentoring, problem solving assistance, valuable business contacts and an outstanding level of professionalism.
